LANCE POWELL

"I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan along with my four siblings. I've always been an active person, since playing tag & basketball in the neighborhood to football & track in secondary school. I consider Costa Rica my second home where I attended  United World College for two years. Along the way, I picked up an appreciation for soccer & ultimate frisbee.

After my tropical hiatus, I returned to the states to attend Columbia University for a bachelors in Financial Economics. My exercise routine in college soon became boring without a competitive goal. That feeling led me to explore martial arts and I joined the Taekowndo team. Finally, I decided to build my repertoire as a health professional adjacent to my core studies."

"I had a lot free time during quarantine, so I spent it similar to most... learning how to code. My ultimate goal was to make a website; however, I wasn't entirely sure what the subject matter would be. I flirted with a few ideas but ultimately settled on health & wellness.

My first webpage was, what is now, the Nutrition Basics page. It was my digital study guide when prepping for my FNS (see credentials). I eventually added informational pages for exercise but was still unsatisfied with the static state of the website. I want Get Like Yew to be an interactive education platform and am actively working toward that end."
